Introduction
Products change: a new material, a new supplier, a new colour. The danger is that a change quietly takes a product outside the fire test its claims rest on. In this last video, we'll raise a change, see exactly what it reaches, and put it in front of a technical reviewer.
Product changes
The product changes register lists every change, from proposal to implementation. Here's one that's done, a cheaper carton print, one under review, a change of intumescent compound, and one just proposed.
Raising a change by conversation
You can raise a change just by describing it on the product's conversation. Here, Dan says customers want the brush pile in bronze too. Doctilla proposes a product change, with the components it touches, and asks anything it's unsure of. Nothing is created until he confirms.
The impact assessment
Every change gets an impact assessment. Doctilla follows the product's structure from the components being changed, to the configurations that use them, to the products and their claims. Then your impact rules decide which claims need a look. Here, a change of fire-critical material sends every claim to review.
A person decides
Notice the line at the bottom. Doctilla flags what a change reaches. Whether the existing evidence still holds is an engineering judgement, and that's for a technical reviewer, not for software.
The technical review
The technical review asks one question. Does the fire test still apply with the new compound? The reviewer can refer it to a specialist outside the business, such as the test laboratory, and record what they said.
Concluding the review
Then the reviewer records a conclusion, with the reasoning. Here, new testing is required, so the claims stay under review and the change can't go ahead on the old evidence. A concluded review is final, with the reviewer's name on it.
End
That's the end of the series. You've seen how Doctilla runs a quality system from day to day, and how it keeps people in charge of every decision that matters. To try it with your own processes, start a free trial at doctilla.co.uk.
