Introduction

Three tools in the improvement menu help you lead the quality system rather than just record it: the quality programme, which plans the work; the quality update, which tells everyone how it's going; and the cost of quality, which shows what problems are really costing.

The quality programme

The quality programme is a plan with milestones and deliverables. Tresmere's is a ninety day plan to get ready for their recertification audit. The bar shows progress, and next up lists what's due soonest, with a link straight to where the work is done.

Deliverables and proof

Each deliverable has an owner, a due date and a status, and quick wins are marked. Open one to link the records that prove it was done, such as the corrective action or the released procedure. A person marks it done. Doctilla never does.

The quality update

The quality update drafts a short report from what was recorded: a weekly update for everyone, a monthly pack, or a brief for the leadership team. It covers what came in, what was fixed, and whether the noise is going down.

Sending it

Add a line of your own, such as a thank you to the team that spotted something, then copy it into an email or export it. Doctilla drafts it, but it never sends anything on your behalf.

Cost of quality

The cost of quality adds up every cost recorded against nonconformities and complaints: time at the agreed rates, replacement product, and other costs, less anything recovered from suppliers. View it by month, by supplier or by category. It's usually more than people think, and it's a strong argument for fixing the cause.

Next

That's the improvement tools. Next, standards: mapping your evidence to the clauses of a standard or a customer's requirements.
