Introduction

ISO 9001 asks you to choose suppliers carefully and keep an eye on how they perform. In this video, we'll follow Sophie in purchasing as she reviews a supplier, records an evaluation, issues a specification, and handles a corrective action with them.

The approved supplier list

The supplier register is your approved supplier list. Each supplier has a status and a next review date, and the critical ones, the suppliers whose failure would reach your customer, are flagged. Search, or filter by status or critical only.

A supplier's record

Open a supplier to see everything about them. The approval status is always set by a person, never by a score. Below are the details: what you buy, the basis of approval, their certificate and when it expires, and when they're next due for review.

Evaluating performance

Every six months or so, record an evaluation. Enter the deliveries and how many were on time and in full, and let Doctilla count the nonconformities from the register. Score quality, delivery and service, and then decide the outcome yourself. Doctilla works out the rates, but the decision is yours.

How they're doing

Further down, Doctilla brings together everything about this supplier's quality: the corrective actions raised with them, what inspections at goods-in found, any complaints they were involved in, and their performance over time. Every nonconformity raised against them is listed, with what it cost.

Issuing documents

When a supplier needs one of your controlled documents, such as a material specification, issue it to them from here. Record how it was sent and when they acknowledged it. When the document is revised, Doctilla shows who's holding an old issue.

Supplier corrective actions

When the cause lies with a supplier, name them on the CAR and ask for their response. Judge it the way you'd judge your own: a real root cause, a fix, and proof it worked. Here, Ardent's response was accepted, and Doctilla records who accepted it and when.

That's suppliers. Next, we'll look at risks and opportunities.
